Clinical Pathology

Clinical pathology involves carrying out laboratory tests on body fluids such as blood and urine. It also includes microscopic analysis of tissues samples (such as needle aspiration of lumps) taken from an animal to assist in making a diagnosis.

Our practice offers a range of clinical pathology services for both small animals and farm animals. These services include:

  • Haematology
  • Biochemistry
  • Body fluid analysis
  • Urinalysis
  • Cytology
  • Parasitology (faecal egg counts and faecal floats)

We can also carry out a range of in-house diagnostic test, such as:

  • Snake venom detection kits
  • Canine Pancreatic Lipase (cPL) test- assists in diagnosis of pancreatitis
  • Feline Immunodeficiency Virus /Feline Leukaemia Virus (FIV/ FeLV) antibody test kits
  • Heartworm test- assists in diagnosis heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis)
  • Bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) antigen PI point-of-care test
  • Calf diarrhoea diagnostic tests- test for Cryptosporidium parvum, Escherichia coli, Rotavirus, Coronavirus, Giardia and Clostridium perfringens
  • Mastitis cultures
